India crosses the threshold of 10 million coronavirus infections

On Saturday, India crossed the threshold of 10 million new infections with the Coronavirus, according to what the Ministry of Health announced, making this country the second in the world in terms of the number of infections.

The ministry said that the number of injuries slightly exceeded 10 million, after 25,000 new cases were recorded during the past twenty-four hours.

Since the start of the pandemic, India has counted 145,136 virus-related deaths, while 9.6 million have recovered, according to the same source.

Residents in the capital, New Delhi, told AFP they were still anxious, but more comfortable than before about leaving their homes.”The levels of fear obviously decreased over time.

At first it was more scary. Now we don’t worry too much. But we still take precautions like wearing masks when going out, avoiding social gatherings,” said Huma Zaidi, a housewife.

India has lifted restrictions on most activities to boost the faltering economy, although some provinces have re-imposed restrictions to stop the spread of the virus.
