Former US Secretary of State Colin Powell has died of complications from the Coronavirus, at the age of 84.
Colin Powell’s family issued a statement on Facebook saying: “General Colin Powell, the former US Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, passed away this morning due to complications from Covid-19.”
The family added: “He has been fully vaccinated, and we would like to thank the medical staff at Walter Reed National Medical Center for the treatment and care they provided. We have lost a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, and a great American.”
Colin Powell is an American politician and retired four-star general in the United States Army.
He was born in Harlem and is the son of Jamaican immigrants of African descent. During his military career, he served as a National Security Adviser, Commander of the US Army Command, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and held the last position during the Second Gulf War.
