Who is Suspect of Baytown Tx Shooting? One person was killed and 14 others were injured after a drive-by shooting during a candlelight vigil in Texas on Sunday night, the authorities said.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said a person opened fire into a crowd of up to 50 people who had gathered for a celebration of life at the 1400 block of N Market Loop in Baytown, which is about 25 miles from Houston.
The vigil was being held for Jamal Narcisse, 29, who was fatally shot during an argument at his home on December 3, according to The Baytown Sun.
Gonzalez said officers were called to the area at around 6:40 p.m. [Read More: Who is Allison Brimhall? Amber Alert issued for 4 sisters in Utah]
“Preliminary info: a large crowd gathered for a celebration of life,” Gonzalez wrote in a tweet. “A vehicle approached and someone from the vehicle began shooting into the crowd. At least 8 people sustained injuries; 7 are non-fatal, but one has been pronounced at a hospital. Homicide & Crime Scene Investigators are en route.”
In a follow-up tweet, Gonzalez confirmed that the number of wounded had gone up to 14. Three of the wounded were airlifted to hospitals in a critical condition, he said.
“Update to shooting on N. Market Loop: told the number of wounded individuals is now up to 14; 1 has been pronounced deceased, 3 being taken by Lifeflight in critical condition, and the remaining ones are said to have non/fatal injuries,” his tweet said.
Gonzalez told the Associated Press that the gunfire had erupted just as people at the vigil were releasing balloons into the air. “Right as they were releasing the balloons up into the air was when the vehicle came,” he said. “Almost at that exact time is when they opened fire into a crowd.”
Police were later called to the Houston Methodist Hospital in Baytown where some of the wounded had been taken after a “disturbance” broke out there.
The authorities have released no information yet about the suspect or suspects and no arrests had been made as of late Sunday. Gonzalez was contacted for additional comment.
The shooting took place on the same night that gunfire erupted near an area where people had gathered to remember the late Mexican singer Vicente Fernández on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
A male suspect was taken into custody and the Los Angeles Police Department shut down Hollywood Boulevard to investigate the scene.
