Passenger Flight feared to crash after losing signals in Indonesia

  • It is not clear how many passengers and crew members were on board the Srivijaya Air Jet. But 62 passengers and crew were listed in the unconfirmed list, which included seven children and three infants.

Flight tracking data show an Indonesian Srivijaya plane crashing into the sea after losing contact with a Boeing 737 air traffic control in the capital Jakarta, four minutes after takeoff as the jet plunged into a steep dive.

It is not clear how many passengers and crew were on board the Srivijaya Air Boeing 737-500 with a capacity of about 130 when it departed from Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

Local media reported that 62 passengers and crew, including seven children and three infants, were listed in an unconfirmed manifesto.


Normal flight time is 90 minutes over the Java Sea between the island of Java and the Indonesian section of the island of Borneo, Kalimantan.
