60,000 ticket reservations canceled after the decision to reduce passenger arrivals

The decision of the government to amend the operational capacity of arriving flights to Kuwait International Airport, so that it does not exceed 35 passengers on board each flight as of today (Sunday).

Sparked the price of tickets flights, which rose in a frenzy, bringing the price of one thousand dinars to nearby stations, as well as canceling some Airlines for their scheduled flights due to the lack of economic viability of the commercial operation, which led to the cancellation of about 60,000 travel reservations.

According to the circular sent to the airlines operating at the airport, which was published by “Al Qabas” local Arabic media the day before yesterday (Friday), according to the new operational requirements issued, the operating capacity for arrival flights will be modified from this 24th until February 6, with the exception of domestic workers And transit passengers, and not changing the operating capacities for flights departing from the country.


A responsible source explained that the decision that the spread of the mutated Coronavirus, and the discovery of two cases of it in the country coming from Britain, prompted the health authorities to tighten control over all arrivals by examining them at the airport before entering the country.

He stressed that the scheduling of flights will change, and it may reach 15 flights coming to the country only, due to some airlines canceling their flights to Kuwait due to the lack of economic viability of the commercial operation.

He stated that the decision may be withdrawn – whenever private laboratories are available at the airport – something that is currently being prepared and is expected to be completed within a few days.


He explained that the commercial operation in the first stage stipulates the arrival of about 5 thousand passengers per day, and with this decision, the proportion of arrivals will be reduced by 80% so that the number of arrivals does not exceed 1000 passengers per day.

A member of the Travel and Tourism Bureau, Abdul Rahman Al-Kharafi, revealed to Al-Qabas that about 60,000 tickets will be canceled after the implementation of the decision today, describing the decision as “ill-considered”, given that many were scheduled to return during the coming days according to prior reservations.

He mentioned that ticket prices will reach unprecedented levels, in light of some companies canceling scheduled flights, saying, “The price of one ticket will reach 1000 dinars for those coming from some nearby stations.”
