Digital Desk, Chennai. The second match of the 4 Test series between India and England is being played at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Openers Rohit Sharma (161) and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane (67) scored centuries to help India reach 300 for six on the first day.
By the end of the first day’s play, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was at the crease with five fours off 55 balls and a six, while Akshar Patel hit five off seven balls. After winning the toss, Team India came to bat first, but a strong 162-run stand for the fourth wicket between Rohit and Rahane put Team India in crisis.

In the first session, India lost Shubhman Gill (0), Cheteshwar Pujara (21) and captain Virat Kohli (0). But, after this, Rohit and Rahane captured the Indian innings and overcame it. Jack Leach (78), Moin Ali (112), Joey Root and Oli Stone took two wickets each for England.

Rohit and Ajinkya Rahane led the Indian innings with three wickets in hand. It was during this time that Rohit hit the 7th century in his Test career. Completed the century in 130 balls. This is Rohit’s fourth century in the last 9 matches. He scored his last century in October 2019 against South Africa in Ranchi. Rohit has made seven career appearances in India. This was his first century in Chennai.
Rohit scored 150+ in the fourth Test. Prior to that, he scored once (177) against the West Indies in 2013 and twice (176 and 212) against South Africa in 2019. At the same time, Rahane made his 23rd fifty Test career. He scored 162 for the fourth wicket with Rohit.
