Tariq Al-Sheikh praises Kuwait’s efforts in developing mechanisms to promote and protect human rights
The National Bureau of Human Rights and the United Nations Office in Kuwait signed a memorandum of understanding to activate joint cooperation between the two sides and coordination in the fields of human rights.
The head of the Kuwaiti National Bureau of Human Rights, Ambassador Jassem Al-Mubaraki, said in a press statement today on the sidelines of the signing that this step aims in its entirety to establish a joint cooperation mechanism that enhances the role of the two sides and strengthens coordination between them in accordance with the objectives and areas of competence of the two parties.
He added that this step is the added value that enhances the role of the Bureau in this regard, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two sides through capacity-building, consolidating human rights values, spreading awareness of them, and working to ensure their practice, in recognition of the Bureau of the importance of joint cooperation in the fields of human rights.
He explained that the areas of cooperation between the United Nations Office and the National Human Rights Office that came in the memorandum of understanding include many aspects of common interest and intersections between the strategic goals of both sides in order to achieve the desired goals of this step.
For his part, the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Resident Coordinator in the State of Kuwait, Dr. Tariq Al-Sheikh, praised in a similar statement the efforts made by Kuwait in the field of developing human rights mechanisms and its keenness to protect and promote them. He noted Kuwait’s great interest in international human rights treaties and charters by integrating these goals into the state’s development plans, especially those related to supporting women’s, children’s issues, the elderly, education and health care.
He pointed to the humanitarian imprints of the State of Kuwait at the local, regional and international levels, which made it gain the appreciation of international organizations. He stated that the National Bureau of Human Rights and the United Nations Office in the State of Kuwait are working together to provide joint support for the implementation of technical and professional programs that achieve the common goals of the two institutions, especially the promotion of human rights, the development of civil rights sector capacities and the dissemination of human rights awareness among Kuwaiti private sector institutions.
