Kuwait City, Oct 7: The Municipal Council unanimously approved the allocation of the eastern expansion of the residential city of South Saad Al-Abdullah with an area of 8.6 km2, in its extraordinary session today, Thursday, headed by Osama Al-Otaibi, Chairman of the Council.
The council stipulated approval by increasing the number of residential plots to reach 35,000 plots for the entire project, as the current number without the expansion is 24,500 thousand plots, and the initial number of plots in the new expansion is expected to reach 6000 plots.
For his part, the Director-General of the Environment Public Authority, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah, stressed in an intervention during the session that the demands to transfer the sewage plant in the east of Saad Al-Abdullah city cannot be moved at present, as the station receives one-fifth of the treated water in the State of Kuwait.
Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ahmad said that the station is currently pumping water to the agricultural areas of Al-Wafra and Al-Abdali to support the national products from the crops, stressing that the authority will work to mitigate environmental damage to the nearby residential areas, and strict control will be established on emissions from this station.
Regarding the importance of requiring environmental studies for the project, he explained that now, by law, environmental studies must be obtained, as it is not possible to allow the establishment of any upcoming residential or industrial project without studying the environmental impact of the project and taking all the curves and matters necessary to license these projects.
He stated that the green areas that are found in residential projects would contribute significantly to improving the environmental situation and the health of citizens.
