The Kuwaiti diplomatic legacy has become a model for countries in the world

Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Majdi Al-Dhafiri affirmed today, Tuesday, that the European Union views with appreciation the role of the State of Kuwait in the region, as well as its foreign policy.

This came in a statement made by Al-Dhafiri to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) and Kuwait State TV at the end of his one-day visit to Brussels, where he held constructive and successful talks with officials from the European Union and the Belgian government.

Al-Dhafiri said, “Today I heard from the European Union the highest appreciation for Kuwait’s role in the region and its foreign policy led by His Highness the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, may his soul rest in peace, and complete it with all the determination and strength of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber.”

He added that Kuwait is leading “active diplomacy” through contacts and communication with countries in the region to create an atmosphere of regional stability and security.

He stressed that “the Kuwaiti diplomatic legacy has become a model for the countries of the world, and the European Union talks about this Kuwaiti model,” noting that dialogue with the European Union is essential and strategic for the State of Kuwait, “and we continue this dialogue with determination to deepen bilateral relations.”

He pointed out that “we were pleased to hear that the European Union intends to respond to the Kuwaiti request to lift the (Schengen) visa for Kuwaitis, as a result of the great confidence that Kuwait enjoys with officials in Brussels,” expressing hope that this will happen in the near future.

Al-Dhafiri said that “the relations between Kuwait and the European Union are strong and characterized by their tireless efforts for peace and stability and solving problems on the basis of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.”

Earlier today, Al-Dhafiri met the Secretary-General of the European Union’s External Action Service, Stefano Sanino, who said that “the relationship between the European Union and Kuwait is very important to us.”Sanino welcomed the Kuwaiti delegation, adding, “Kuwait is a major country in the Gulf region and plays a very positive and constructive role in the region.”He added, “We appreciate this and are trying to strengthen the relationship with the region, and we will establish contact relations between the European Union and the Gulf countries, which constitute a framework for strengthening our joint action.”Al-Dhafiri also met the Director-General of the Belgian Foreign Ministry, Theodora Jentzis, and discussed with her the Belgian-Kuwaiti relations and ways to enhance and deepen them in all trade, economic, investment and security sectors.The Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister said, “We are pleased to have a strong relationship with the Kingdom of Belgium, and we seek to develop this relationship to a strategic level,” stressing that “Belgium’s role is pivotal, and Kuwait’s role is also pivotal in the region.”Al-Dhafiri’s visit began with a lunch meeting with the Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Political Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Enrique Mora.The meetings were attended by the Assistant Foreign Minister for the Deputy Foreign Minister’s Office, Ambassador Ayham Al-Omar, the Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hain, and Kuwait’s Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and NATO Jassem Al-Badawi.
