1200 parents said their children are drug-addicted

Kuwait City, July 13: In response to Al-bas’ investigation yesterday in its issue issued (Tuesday) entitled “Drugs doubled murders in Kuwait“, parliament and popular warnings about the spread of this destructive scourge among young people and adolescents increased, which doubled the rates of extraneous crimes in the country.

While a number of deputies considered that drugs had spread in an alarming manner and had become a phenomenon, they indicated that “addiction has become the common denominator in most of the recent murders,” stressing the need to apply the law to everyone and not to yield to mediation and leniency with drug users and drug holders.

They stated that the reports revealed an organized campaign to target Kuwait, transforming it from a mere drug smuggling station to a “fertile land for incubating these toxins.”


In addition, security and legal officials revealed that the number of addicted teenagers doubled, noting that 1,200 citizens and residents submitted reports to the relevant authorities against their addicted children from the beginning of 2021 until last June.

The statistics revealed that “the number of deaths in Kuwait as a result of the abuse of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances” from 2010 to the end of 2021 “has reached 800, and citizens represent 75% of the victims of abuse, and the overdose The death rate has increased to about 67 victims annually.”

While last year alone witness 1,759 cases of drug and psychotropic substances before the judicial authorities, adolescents and juveniles were implicated in 242 crimes of violence and self-aggression due to abuse.

On the ground, the Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of more than 11,000 people accused of drug possession during the period from 2015 to 2020, pointing to a set of strict measures to combat this scourge, most notably strengthening control at land and sea ports, modernizing inspection devices for contraband, blocking drug-promoting sites, and taking more. One of the steps to prevent the infiltration of smugglers through the territorial waters.

822 seizures in 6 months

Official statistics revealed a significant increase in the activity of narcotics and psychotropic substance promoters during the first half of this year. The number of drug seizures during this period amounted to 822 cases.

Statistics have shown that the high number of overdose deaths is due to the prevalence of dangerous drugs among young people. Where this trade turned into the trade of death.

Addicted Kids

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Affairs, cases of drug abuse increased among children under the age of 18, and drugs were the cause of most of the crimes of self-aggression, theft and attempted suicide during the past year.
