  • Purpose of the scheme: – The only objective of the government behind starting the NREGA card started by the central government was that they want to increase the standard of the people coming under the rural area.

History of MNREGA Scheme

NREGA is also known as MGNREGA, whose full name is Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. It was started in 1991 by the government of the then Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. It was initially implemented in 625 districts after being accepted in both the parliaments, and later it was implemented in the whole country. Through this, jobs were provided by the central government to those people who did not have any source of earning money, thus this scheme was started by trying to eliminate the problems of unemployment. Then this scheme was named as NREGA by the then central government.

  • In all states of the country :- Citizens of all states and union territories of India are eligible to get benefits for NREGA job card.
  • Poor citizens: – To take advantage of this scheme, only such people of the country are eligible whose annual family income is very less.
  • Unemployed citizens: – In this scheme, 100 days of employment is being provided only to those people who do not have any source of income.
  • Bank account holders: – The amount is deposited in the bank account of the people working in NREGA, so only the bank account holders are eligible for it.
