Digital Desk (Bhopal). Today, February 17, is the 67th birthday of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Chandrasekhar Rao was born in 1953 in Medak, Telangana and his full name is Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao. Rao is the head of the Telangana National Committee (TRS). In June 2014, he became the first Chief Minister of Telangana. He took charge of Telangana for the second time in 2018 and was sworn in as the Chief Minister.
Rao started his political career as a student leader. He joined the Telugu Desam Party in 1985 and was first elected as an MLA. Minister of State in Andhra Pradesh from 1987-88 and Union Minister from 1997-99.
Served as Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1999-2001. He was then the Union Minister of Labor and Planning from 2004-06. His party did worse than expected from opinion polls, which saw them at gaining about 88 out of 119 seats in the state in the 2018 Assembly elections. Concerned over the formation of a separate Telangana state, KCR called for ‘Telangana pride’ to compete with Naidu in the state and Rao’s party easily won the election by addressing the Andhra Pradesh chief minister as an outsider. The BJP, which fielded veterans like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the campaign, managed to win only one seat.
The disbanded KCR left the TDP formed by NT Rama Rao in 2001 and formed the TRS seeking a separate state and the new Telangana state came into existence on 2 June 2014.
