Army cheif CDS Bipin Rawat helicopter crashes in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu

An Army helicopter crashed in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday morning. Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat was also present in this chopper along with wife Madhulika Rawat. The operation is on to rescue the occupants of the helicopter.

The Air Force has said that an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, defense sources in Chennai said that four officers have died in the accident. Apart from this, three others have been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. At present, no update has been given by the army about the condition of CDS Bipin Rawat and his wife.

Sources said that 14 people were on board the helicopter. Information about the remaining seven people is not yet available. According to the news, Bipin Rawat was going to participate in a lecture series. The Air Force has informed by tweeting that this chauffeur belonged to the Mi-17 series, which became a victim of the accident in the morning.

An inquiry into the cause of the accident has been ordered by the Air Force. In the video that has surfaced after the accident, the chauffeur is seen completely burnt.
